PAWS for Success

Kilough Elementary School
PAWS for Success
 Program

The PAWS for Success program is a school-wide approach to teaching character education and expectations for student behavior.  The program’s preventive effort adds intensive individualized support for those students with higher level needs.  By using the PAWS for Success Program, teachers will create a safe, nurturing environment for each and every student.  The expectations are easily remembered using the word PAWS which stand for:

Pledge To Your Best
Accept Responsibility
Work together
Show Respect

School-wide expectations are printed and displayed throughout our school along with additional expectations for areas such as classrooms, lunchroom, bathrooms, hallways, etc.  Each teacher will display a set of posters with expectations listed so that everyone in our school can consistently reinforce the behaviors.

Anti-Bullying Policy
Kilough Elementary School strictly prohibits the bullying of a student by a student.  Bullying is defined by Georgia Law as:
      (1) Any willful attempt or threat to inflict injury on another person, when
accompanied by an apparent present ability to do so; or,
      (2) Any intentional display of force such as would give the victim reason to fear or expect   immediate bodily harm.
How do you know if a child is being bullied?  Use the Double I/R Criteria:
Double I:  Is the act intentional?
Is there an imbalance of power between victim and aggressor?
R:            Is the act repeated by aggressor towards this victim?
