One Dawson Updates with Nicole LeCave
Mrs. LeCave shared information with the governance over the following:
-
The State GMAS & EOC scores compared to RESA and state were shared with the council.
-
Growth -We currently have 4339 students enrolled, which is an increase of 238 students from this time last year. A total of 23 positions were added last year. Current class sizes are good, with the exception of one kindergarten at RvES and one 4th at BMES. The demographics in our county are changing as well, with an increase in our Hispanic and Asian Indian populations.
-
All buildings are able to handle the growth. There are no buildings near capacity. There are renovations planned for KES and BMES in the near future. Gymnasiums will be converted to class space, and a new building will be added to house auxiliary classes.
-
One of the greatest concerns at this time is in the Transportation department. The BOE is currently working on a plan to address the need for additional bay space. Traffic on the roads is also a rising concern.
-
DC is looking at a new elementary school in the next 5 years. Location has not been determined.
-
DC is sitting at approximately 50% free and reduced. RvES and DCMS have the highest percentage of free and reduced students.
-
DC has started the Strategic Plan process and we are workign with GSBA.
-
An additional safe schools coordinator position has been added. They will be housed at Dawson County Middle School.
-
DCHS Head football coach, Sid Maxwell has retired effective June 2025.
